The Best Lavender Farms in Sequim, Washington
Washington State is famous for its diverse landscapes, from its temperate weather to its stunning mountain ranges. However, one of the most underrated attractions in the area is its flower fields. With its mild climate, Western Washington is perfect for growing vibrant flowers, including lavender, which flourishes in the region’s conditions. Visiting lavender farms in Sequim during the summer months is a truly unique experience.

Why Are There So Many Lavender Farms in Washington?

Sequim, located on the Olympic Peninsula, offers the perfect environment for lavender cultivation. Surrounded by mountains and the coastline, Sequim sits in a rain shadow, protecting it from excessive rainfall. While the surrounding areas receive significant amounts of rain, Sequim only averages about 17 inches annually, creating ideal conditions for lavender, which thrives in drier climates. The nearby state of California is also known for its lavender fields, making it an excellent option for those planning a West Coast road trip.

When Is the Best Time to See the Lavender in Washington?

Lavender season in Sequim typically runs from June to September, but the exact timing can vary depending on the weather. For example, in 2022, the region had a longer winter, which caused cooler temperatures and delayed blooming until late June or early July. If you’re traveling from out of state or country, it’s recommended to visit in July when the lavender is at its peak bloom. If you live nearby, check the farm websites and social media pages for updates on the bloom schedule. Sequim is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Seattle, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway. The Sequim Lavender Festival takes place every third weekend of July, with participating farms marked along a lavender trail.
